WGC Stanborough Lakes Evening Walk (4.5 miles / 7km - Easy, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.
We are kicking off National Walking Month with our first evening walk of 2026. This 4.5 mile route offers a combination of suburban town and countryside scenery over flat terrain. The walk begins at the heart of Welwyn Garden City, outside The Howard Centre. We will make our way out of the town centre to the Coronation Fountain and down picturesque Parkway, passing Gosling Sports Centre then onto Stanborough Lakes.
The route takes us on a loop of the North Side of Stanborough Lakes, which is home to a variety of bird life and also has a Splash Lands and Aerial Adventure course that operates during daytime hours.
The path alongside the River Lea leads us onto the South Side of Stanborough Lakes which provides activities including water sports and fishing. We will take a brief detour through the peaceful Stanborough Reedmarsh Nature Reserve (managed by Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust) that is home to various species of insects and birds and is the third-largest reedbed in Hertfordshire.
Once we have walked through the nature reserve, we will make a short stop by the South Side lake before making our way back to Welwyn Garden City town centre for an optional post-walk drink in one of the pubs/bars in Welwyn Garden City town centre.
Dogs are welcome on a lead.
