Two Ridges Link: Leighton Buzzard to Tring (12 miles / 19.5km - Moderate, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

The Two Ridges link is a varied route passing through Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire which links two well-known trails, the Greensand Ridge Walk at Leighton Buzzard and the Ridgeway National Trail at Ivinghoe Beacon, which we’ll follow to Tring station.

Please note this is a linear walk from Leighton Buzzard to Tring. Drivers may wish to park at Tring station to take the train to Leighton Buzzard so their cars are waiting at the end.

The terrain is a mix of canal towpath, farmland and open hilltop walking, with a village pub stop to break things up. The walk will be at a steady, sociable pace throughout, with plenty of chance to chat along the way.

Please bring a packed lunch, and walking shoes or boots are recommended for the climb up to Ivinghoe Beacon.

We start along the Grand Union Canal towpath for just over a third of the route, before turning onto quieter field paths and bridleways through countryside skirting the bottom of the Chiltern Escarpment. We'll stop for lunch in the shelter of Slapton churchyard, then continue to Ivinghoe Aston, where the Village Swan pub makes a welcome pause before the day's biggest challenge: an amusingly steep climb up to Ivinghoe Beacon. The reward is wide-reaching views across the Vale of Aylesbury.

From the top of Ivingoe Beacon (trailhead of the Ridgeway heading southwest and also the Icknield Way Path going northeast), our route drops down the gentler side of the hill and joins the Ridgeway proper, tracing it through the woodland of Aldbury Nowers to finish at Tring station.

Toilets are available at Leighton Buzzard station (on the platform) and at the Village Swan pub in Ivinghoe Aston (around two-thirds of the way round). There are no toilets at Tring station.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
