Tring Taproom Trek (9 miles/14.5km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

Join us as we kick off our 2026 series of Taproom Treks in Tring, home of the Tring Brewing Co. Our periodic Taproom Treks combine a walk with a visit to a brewery taproom. Along the way will be a lunch stop, so please bring a packed lunch with you.

The route follows a mixture of paved, gravel and unsurfaced paths which will be muddy in times of wet weather, so walking boots are recommended. There will be some gentle slopes, but most of the walk will be flat, taking in woods, fields and waterside.

We'll start in Tring Park car park and head south, following the Icknield Way Trail through Tring Park, formerly the grounds of Tring Park Mansion and now a Woodland Trust conservation area. Heading east through Nursery, Bull and North Pest House Woods will lead us between Wigginton to the south and Pendley Manor to the north. From here we'll follow the Ridgeway National Trail to the Grand Union Canal, a good place to see local aquatic birds and decorative canal boats. Along the way is an ironworks canal works station in Bulbourne, now a residential area, but with some of the original buildings still intact.

Next on the walk will be Tring Reservoirs, a group of four smaller reservoirs that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest and great for birdwatching. We'll then join the Wendover arm of the Grand Union Canal, turning into Tring Wharf.

Touring through Tring will lead us to The Piggeries, Tring Brewery's taproom where we'll stop for a drink. The Brewery was founded in 1992 and last year a taproom was opened on the site which has seating in barns, an outdoor courtyard and a double decker bus. After our drink stop we'll head into Tring town centre, past the Natural History Museum and back to our starting place.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
