Tearoom Trek: Ickwell, Old Warden & Northill (8.5 miles / 13.5 km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

The latest in our series of occasional "tearoom treks" where we visit a cafe during the walk. This time, we will be visiting the rambler (and cyclist) friendly Cowshed Café near Old Warden. The route is through a mixture of farmland and woodland, with a few moderate slopes. Please note that we cannot guarantee that the tearoom will be open, and will confirm shortly before the walk; if needed, there will be a fallback plan to stop for drinks at the Hare and Hounds Pub, Old Warden.

Starting from Northill, we will follow the Greensand Ridge Walk, past Holme Park Stud Farm, with a diversion from the route to visit the Cowshed Café if it is open. Returning to the main route, we will turn south, leaving the Greensand Ridge Walk to approach Old Warden, where we will pass the cricket club, and stop for lunch by St. Leonard’s Church.

After lunch, we will skirt around the southern edge of the Shuttleworth Estate, passing through some woodland, where we will be able to glimpse Queen Anne’s Summerhouse. We might also be able to catch sight of aircraft taking off and landing at Shuttleworth.

After this, we will head northwards back to the start point, passing the Ickwell & Old Warden Football Club and the Ickwell Maypole, and some attractive thatched cottages. After we finish, there will be optional drinks at the Crown Public House.

Dogs are welcome on a lead; please note that they cannot be bought into the cafe, but there will be space at the outdoor seating area.
