Stag Walkers Weekend Away - Baby Seals in Norfolk (Ramblers Members Only)

Join us for what could be our cutest trip yet – to see baby seals in Norfolk! We’ll visit Horsey Gap, home to one of the largest colonies of grey seals in the UK.

We’ll be based in the seaside town of Great Yarmouth.

The weekend is flexible, so please feel free to join for whichever walks and meals you like.

Friday 29th - 8pm @ Zak's Yankee Traveller (King St, NR30 2PN)
An American diner style restaurant.

Saturday 30th – meet 8.50am, Market Gates bus stop, Stand E. Temple Rd, NR30 2BG.
Seal spotting at Horsey Gap & Winterton (approx. 10 miles)

We’ll catch the 9.03am bus (1 Coastal Clipper service, 40mins) from Great Yarmouth to Winterton-on-Sea to start our walk along the coast to Horsey Gap, where the main seal watching opportunities are. We’ll also explore some of the nearby countryside, including a possible pub stop and a ruined church, before taking the bus back to Yarmouth. Bring a packed lunch.

Saturday Meal - The Alexandra Restaurant @ 7.30pm (12 Regent Rd, NR30 2AF)
Family-run Greek restaurant, please complete pre-order by Thurs 28th.

Sunday 1st – meet 10.05am, Great Yarmouth railway station.
Norfolk Broads - Berney Arms to Reedham (7-8miles)

(Buy a return ticket to Reedham)
We’ll take the 10.17am train to Berney Arms, one of England’s most remote railway stations. We’ll follow the River Yare to the village of Reedham, before catching the 1.55pm train back to Yarmouth (arriving 2.12pm). Bring a packed lunch.

Due to a lack of luggage storage facilities in GY, if drivers are happy for members travelling by public transport to leave bag(s) in cars while we are on the walk that would be much appreciated.

Once you have booked onto this weekend away on Meetup, please make your own arrangements for accommodation. Probably best to be based walking distance from the bus stop and evening meal locations

Booking
The weekend is exclusive to current (paid-up) members of Ramblers. Space is limited to 20 people and must be booked via Meetup.
Book your place by clicking the ‘Attend’ button and if the event is full, click ‘join waitlist’ and you will be added if a place becomes available.

Transport
Great Yarmouth has a railway station on the northwest side of the town. The journey from e.g. Hitchin usually takes between 3 and 3.5 hours, changing as a minimum at Cambridge and Norwich. Some trips may include additional changes at Stowmarket or Ely. Unfortunately on the Sunday the journey home will also include a rail replacement bus from Royston towards the Hitchin direction.

Great Yarmouth is approx. 110 miles from Hitchin via road, typically taking between 2 and 2.5 hours to drive. We encourage drivers to offer car-share and split fuel costs.

About the organisers
This event is hosted by Stag Walkers - we are a Ramblers group aimed mainly at people in their 20s and 30s but all are welcome and we have members of all ages. We run weekly walks, on Saturdays or Sundays, varying in length from around 5 to 15 miles, and we host regular social nights. Walks and socials generally take place across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and south Cambridgeshire.
