Stag Walkers Social: Royston Cave Tour

Join Stag Walkers this Spring Bank Holiday for a tour of the mysterious Royston Cave, preceded by the option of a local walk and followed by the opportunity of drinks at the King James pub.

Underneath the main road through Royston is a cavern which lay hidden for centuries. Discovered by accident in 1742, this man-made cave is covered in strange carvings of religious figures. To this day, it is not known when the cave was dug out of the chalk or what its purpose was; there are a few theories including that it could have been a private chapel or used by the Knights Templar. It now attracts visitors intrigued by its history or drawn by its apparent sacred energy.

We will join the public guided tour starting at 3:20pm, lasting approximately 40 minutes. After this, you are welcome to join us for a drink at the King James Pub just a short walk from the cave.

If you wish to join our local walk beforehand, please book for the walk at our separate event page.

Please:

• DO NOT book onto an event unless you are pretty sure you will be able to make it.
• UPDATE YOUR RSVP. We understand ‘life happens’ so if you need to change your RSVP please do this at least 24 hours before the event and before booking closes to enable someone else to take your place.
• DON’T NO-SHOW on the day unless it is absolutely unavoidable (we do understand ‘life happens’) because it prevents others from enjoying an event if it is fully booked.
TAKE NOTE that if you no-show three times, without extenuating circumstances, we will decline further bookings from you for a period of six weeks.
• DO car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
