St Albans, Gorhambury Ruins & the Moon! (7.5 miles / 12km- Moderate, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

Join us as we venture to the surface of the moon! 'Museum of the Moon', a mesmerising touring artwork by UK artist Luke Jerram, is currently gracing St Albans Cathedral. We'll conclude our walk with the chance to marvel at this magnificent lunar installation in its awe-inspiring setting.

We'll start by embarking on a countryside ramble, beginning with a stroll through St Albans' rich Roman history in Verulamium Park. Leaving the city behind, we'll make our way to the picturesque Gorhambury Estate, following its sweeping drive to the elegant 18th-century country house, which replaced the original Old Gorhambury House - now an atmospheric ruin that we’ll take time to explore.

The walk offers gently rolling views of the surrounding parkland and farmland as we meander along estate tracks and quiet country lanes. We’ll pause for a packed lunch near Appspond Wood before heading to the hamlet of Potters Crouch for a well-earned pub visit. From there, our journey back to the Cathedral will take us along a varied route of lanes, woodland trails, open fields, suburban footpaths, and even more Roman remnants.

A final glimpse of Museum of the Moon inside the Cathedral is, of course, entirely optional. And for those who wish to extend the day, St Albans' many welcoming hostelries await, offering the perfect spot for post-walk refreshments.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
