St Albans, Batchwood and Childwickbury House (5.5 mi / 8.5 km, Easy, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
Join us for a short walk from the outskirts of St Albans in and around Batchwood.
At just under 5.5 miles this is a relatively short walk along a well trodden route. We begin in Verulamium Park, notable for containing several remaining sections of the ruined Roman city wall, before crossing the River Ver and heading up towards Batchwood Hall, the former manor house and grounds now home to a golf course and sports centre. The locally famous night club on site was destroyed by a fire in 2011 and never reopened.
We continue north towards the hamlet of Childwickbury. We pass Childwickbury House, former residence of the late film director Stanley Kubrick, before heading back through a local fruit farm.
Finally we return through woods before joining the path towards Verulamium where there are several pubs nearby, along with the venerable Waffle House, to enjoy after the walk!
Dogs are welcome on a lead.
