Shepreth Two Rivers Walk (6.5 miles / 10.5km - Leisurely, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
A circular route taking in two chalk streams, two nature reserves and three villages in south Cambridgeshire.
Starting at Shepreth Village Hall car park (a few minutes’ walk from the railway station), we first visit L-Moor Common, a grassland Site of Special Scientific Interest which takes its name from its distinctive L-shape. Entering neighbouring Meldreth, we circle round the parish church then walk alongside the clear waters of the River Mel, going past a former water mill and through Melwood nature reserve.
We leave the woods behind to cross the railway line and reach Melbourn, where we can stop for a snack break at the village playing field. Next, we’ll walk through the village, passing many quaint old buildings, then cross farmland and a golf course before reaching the River Shep. We’ll finish by following the Shep downstream back to Shepreth, where we can visit The Plough for refreshments - a spacious pub serving real ale, craft beer, craft cider and hot drinks.
Please note some paths may be muddy or wet so waterproof walking boots are recommended.
Dogs are welcome on a lead, if able to negotiate stiles.
