Sandy, Ickwell and Northill (8 miles / 13km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

A circular walk from Sandy across farmland and through the rural villages of Upper Caldecote, Ickwell and Northill. The route is across mostly level terrain on a mix of farm tracks, footpaths and pavements alongside village roads.

Starting from Sandy railway station, our route crosses the water-meadows of the River Ivel, to the village of Beeston, where we will use a footbridge to cross the A1. Moving into the village, we will walk along part of its grand, tree-lined village green. Leaving Beeston we follow farm tracks across the fields to the village of Upper Caldecote, where we will take a short break on the village green.

The route continues on paths across farmland towards Ickwell. Just before we reach the village we will have a good view of Shuttleworth House and its vintage aircraft collection, and if we're lucky we may see some planes in flight. A bridleway will then take us into Ickwell, a small picturesque village with a traditional village green, complete with cricket pitch and maypole. Following a pavement alongside the main road through the village we will then reach Northill, where we will stop at the village green for lunch and a possible drink stop at The Crown pub nearby.

After our stop we will pick up the Greensand Ridge Walk footpath to take us across farmland back to Beeston, where we will retrace our route back to Sandy station. After the walk there will be the option to have a drink at one of the pubs in Sandy.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
