Pre-Fireworks Walk: Baldock, Weston and Halls Green (9 miles/15km, Moderate, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
A circular walk across the North Hertfordshire countryside, with a few hills. If we are lucky, we might be able to see some game birds. You are advised to bring sturdy footwear, and a change of shoes, as it is likely to be muddy in places.
We'll start off in Baldock, walking along Clothall Road, formerly Pesthouse Lane, presumably named after an old plague hospital.
After this, we will follow the Icknield Way path, and turn onto the Hertfordshire Way, passing through Weston, where we can pause to look at the grave of Jack O'Legs (from local folklore) in the local churchyard.
From here, we will cross farmland towards Halls Green, and then head towards Warrens Green, before heading back towards Weston, where we should be able to see the church spire again, in the distance.
We will stop for lunch at the recreation ground, and then there will be an potential pub stop at the Cricketers, and then we will pass the village green, and head back to Baldock, via Weston Hills Local Nature Reserve.
After the walk, there will be an optional pub visit, and a social at Baldock Community Fireworks (this will be set up as a separate event).
Dogs are welcome to attend the walk, on a lead, but please don't bring a dog to the fireworks social afterwards.
Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.
Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.
Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.
Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
