Mental Health Walk - Hitchin to Oughtonhead (4 miles / 6.5km - Leisurely, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
Join us on this special walk for Mental Health Awareness Week and discover the mental health benefits walking can bring!
Going for a walk can make you feel happier, calmer, less stressed and more energetic. It's even better enjoyed with a group of like-minded walkers.
On this short walk we’ll head from Hitchin town centre along the Hitchin Outer Orbital Path into the countryside, past fields where the bright yellow rapeseed might still be in bloom. At Oughtonhead we’ll see the source of the River Oughton, a two-mile long tributary of the River Hiz. We’ll follow the stream’s clear waters through spring woodland to Oughtonhead Common, a Green Flag Award winning local nature reserve, and continue past reed beds before turning away from the river and walking over the common, which is grazed by longhorn cattle.
We’ll then head along footpaths at the edge of town, past Hitchin Town Football Club before making our way across Butts Close (the oldest open space in Hitchin) and back to our start point.
After the walk there will be an optional pub stop at The George.
Dogs are welcome on a lead.
