Letchworth, Wymondley Wood & Willian (7 miles / 11km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

This walk takes in some pleasant countryside between Letchworth and Hitchin, the pretty village of Willian and the leafy streets of the world’s first Garden City.

Setting off from central Letchworth, we’ll head westwards out of town to join the Garden City Greenway, the local orbital walking & cycling route. We’ll follow the trail through countryside to the edge of Hitchin, enjoying some great views along the way.

We’ll detour from the Greenway to visit Wymondley Wood, a mixed plantation with picnic tables where we can have a bite to eat. We’ll then continue on field-edge paths to Willian - one of the original three villages around which Letchworth Garden City was created. We’ll pass the village church and green before we enter Letchworth again, where we’ll walk along the wide Broadway, past the fountains in Broadway Gardens and back to our start point.

During the walk we’ll see an ancient burial mound, a tribute to two pioneers in military aviation, an interesting sculpture depicting a notable Letchworthian, and also the UK’s first roundabout!

After the walk there’s the option of drinks at a nearby pub.

Please bring a packed lunch/snacks.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
