Letchworth Festival - Taproom Trek: Radwell and Nortonbury (8 mi/13km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

Hosted by Stag Walkers for Letchworth Festival. A circular walk through town and country north of Letchworth, visiting Norton Common, Radwell Lake and Radwell Meadows, and finishing with an optional trip to the Garden City Brewery.

The route is relatively flat with a few gentle slopes, partly on pavement and partly on rural footpaths.

The walk starts not far from the town centre at Howard Park, then passes through Norton Common Local Nature Reserve, where we’ll follow Pix Brook through woodland. We join the route of the Garden City Greenway as we near Standalone Farm, where we might spot some farm animals as we pass.

Leaving the Greenway, we’ll walk through farmland that may be lost to housing development in years to come, and will have a view of Fairfield. Near Stotfold we’ll cross Norton Road then head to the small village of Radwell, passing the airstrip and the River Ivel. At Radwell Lake we can observe a range of waterfowl while we stop for a tea break.

Next we pass the little All Saints Church and walk through Radwell Bury Farm before reaching Radwell Meadows, where there may be cattle grazing. We’ll stop for our packed lunch at the Radwell Meadows picnic area.

After lunch, we rejoin the Greenway at Nortonbury, passing the stables at the former Nortonbury Farm, now a health spa. Finally, returning into Letchworth we’ll follow part of the Icknield Way long-distance trail before coming back to our start point.

After the walk, everyone is welcome to join us for an optional drink at the nearby Garden City Brewery, which serves ales brewed on-site alongside a selection of guest beers, local ciders, wines, spirits, soft drinks and bar snacks.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
