Introductory Walk: Wheathampstead and Devil's Dyke (4.5 miles / 7.5km - Leisurely, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
Join us for a leisurely walk centred around Wheathampstead and the surrounding fields. If you’re new to countryside walking, or haven’t been to many group walks, this one is for you!
The walk will take just 2 or 3 hours and will will give newcomers the chance to find out more about Stag Walkers and the Ramblers.
Regular walkers are also invited to attend who'd like to welcome others to enjoy the outdoors with us.
We'll start off by following the River Lea out of the village, before heading south to Devil's Dyke, an ancient Celtic defence earthwork. Following the Dyke, we head down towards Nomansland, so named due to a historic parish dispute, before heading across towards the golf course and heading back into Wheathampstead past a local farm.
This is a relatively flat walk, with some small inclines towards the end. Please bring appropriate footwear as if it's been raining before it's likely to be quite muddy!
Feel free to bring snacks, and there will be a pub visit at the end (but no lunch stop due to the short length).
Dogs are welcome on a lead.
For information about walking with the group, including our dog policy, please visit the Stag Walkers website.
Booking your place: Please book your place using the free Meetup website/app. Join the Stag Walkers Meetup group and click the 'Attend' button on the event page.
Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.
If the walk is fully booked, click 'join waitlist' to get a place if one becomes available and please check back regularly in case you do get a place. The waitlist gives priority to single bookings so if you wish to bring a guest, we recommend booking separately.
Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.
