Hitchin Lavender Walk (9 miles / 14 km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

This scenic circular walk takes in one of the area's biggest attractions, Hitchin Lavender at Cadwell Farm. It also includes wide Hertfordshire countryside views, riverside paths and open farmland, as well as some small hilly sections. 

We’ll begin with some town walking as we head north out of Hitchin, before following the River Hiz north towards Ickleford. Next we will join the Icknield Way and steadily climb towards Letchworth Garden City, before looping back, walking alongside the iconic Hitchin Lavender fields towards Ickleford. 

Having skirted the north of the village, we’ll then head towards its centre where we will stop for our packed lunch break at Upper Green, next to the Plume of Feathers with the option to visit the pub for a drink before continuing the walk. After lunch we re-join the Icknield Way, heading west and then south over open countryside to join Oughtonhead Common, home to a herd of hardy English Longhorn Cattle.

From here, we’ll work our way through some more rolling farmland towards the western edge of Hitchin, where we’ll transition through picturesque small streets and alleyways and the town’s historic centre before returning to our start point.

Please note that we will not be entering the field at Hitchin Lavender, so paid tickets are not required.
