Hertfordshire Way #3: Wheathampstead to St Albans (10.5 miles / 17km - Moderate, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

Part 3 of an epic long-distance trail around Hertfordshire - join us for any of these!

Please note this is a linear walk from Wheathampstead to St Albans - at the end point you can get a bus back to the start (Red Rose 357 leaves St Peter's St Stop 13 at 5 mins past each hour). Drivers may wish to park at the start but please note central St Albans parking is expensive, £15 for 6 hours.

We leave Wheathampstead via Devil's Dyke, the remains of an ancient earthwork, before heading over fields towards the village of Sandridge. Here we skirt around the edge of Heartwood Forest, created between 2008 and 2018 with the planting of 600,000 trees. Our next landmark is Childwickbury Manor, once home to filmmaker Stanley Kubrick.

As we get closer to St Albans we see our destination for today, St Albans Cathedral in the distance. At the end of the walk, you're welcome to join us in the Mad Squirrel pub next to the Cathedral before catching the bus back to Wheathampstead or home.

Please bring a packed lunch for a picnic stop en route.

Dogs are welcome, on a lead.
