Hemel, Gade Valley Views and a Mad Squirrel (9 miles / 14.5km - Moderate, Booking Required)
This is a joint walk led by Chiltern Young Walkers, with 20 places for each group.
Starting from Hemel Old Town, we head up out of the Gade Valley across rolling farmland until we pass the grand Palladian mansion of Gaddesden Place and enjoy what is claimed to be one of the finest views in the Home Counties and the setting for films Legend of Tarzan (2016) and The Current War (2018).
We then head into the valley to have lunch beside the River Gade, before taking the Chiltern Way through woodland and heading up to Boxted Farm, home to the Mad Squirrel Brewery, where we'll pause for a drink.
After following the woodland around the outskirts of Hemel and the site of a Roman villa spa and resort, we cross the River Gade once again, finally passing through Gadebridge Park back to the start point and the option of a drink in one of the historic Old Town pubs.
Dogs are welcome, on a short lead.
