Great Offley Summer Evening Walk (5 miles / 8km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 25 people, including the leader.

A midweek evening walk through gently rolling countryside around Great Offley, the hilltop village between Luton and Hitchin.

Starting in the south of the village near St Mary Magdalene Church, we’ll follow footpaths through fields sometimes grazed by sheep and then across arable fields into the valley of Lilley Bottom. From the corner of Westbury Wood there is a wonderful view across the valley and a good chance of seeing red kites overhead.

We’ll ascend back out of the valley to the edge of Mangrove Green, where we join a section of the Chiltern Way long-distance path. After another dip into the valley we’ll pass a paddock where we might see some friendly horses. We then head along the road towards Great Offley, where on Salusbury Lane we can admire a veteran oak tree thought to be over 400 years old.

After the walk there is the option of a drink at The Red Lion pub near the start point.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
