Essex Coast Path Away Day: Walton-on-the-Naze to Clacton-on-Sea (13mi/ 21km - Moderate, Booking Req)

This walk is for up to 20 people, including the leader.

This away day walk takes in a varied section of the Essex coast, following part of what will become the King Charles III England Coast Path.

Please note this is a linear walk from Walton-on-the-Naze to Clacton-on-Sea, which are linked by train or bus services.

We will start from Walton-on-the-Naze train station, joining the coast at Walton Mere. We will then head around the Naze through Walton Hall marshes, where we will have views across Arthur Ransome territory (of Swallows and Amazons fame), as well as Felixstowe docks. Rounding the Naze, we will head up the cliffs to the Naze tower, where we will stop for an extended lunch to explore the visitor centre, tower (optional, with £4 charge) and cliffs.

After lunch, we will head back down the cliffs towards Walton Pier before heading over to the many beach huts at Frinton-on-Sea. We will ascend again to the Greensward, where we will see some art deco houses, before leaving Frinton past the golf course and heading towards Holland-on-Sea. Finally, we will walk along the promenade towards Clacton-on-Sea, finishing on the Venetian bridge by the pier. We can then return home via the train from Clacton at 18.05.

Please note there is very minimal shade on this walk, so please be prepared for hot weather and sun.

Please note this walk is not suitable for dogs.
