Codicote & Knebworth Park Circular (8 miles/13 km, Moderate, Booking Required)
This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.
Recommended by Country Walking Magazine this walk begins in Codicote before heading out into the countryside and skirting the edge of Holl Lays, Graffidge, and Burleighcroft Woods, where we may see bluebells on the woodland floor. We will then make our way through Wintergreen Wood and into Knebworth Country Park where occasional herds of deer can be seen roaming the grounds.
A stroll through the grounds of the park takes us to Knebworth House where we will have a short lunch break before continuing. After leaving Knebworth House we will walk through Old Knebworth and then pass through New Wood near Rableyheath before heading back to Codicote to finish.
This is a fairly flat walk with few hills but please note that walking boots are recommended if we’ve had wet weather, as some paths, especially through some of the woods, may be muddy. It is also recommend to bring something to sit on at lunch (e.g. sitmat or carrier bag). Some fields may contain livestock or horses so, whilst dogs are welcome, they must be kept under strict control and should be on leads at all times.
Later in the day we will have a nearby social event in Stevenage Leisure Park which Ramblers members are welcome to join us at (please see separate event page for booking - you can be added to the waitlist if the event is full). We will be going to Boom Battle Bar for some axe throwing. It is suggested to bring a change of clothes in case of mud on the walk. For those attending, or people wishing to join, food is available in the Leisure Park for a late lunch/early dinner between the events (you are advised to avoid drinking alcohol before the social if attending).
Dogs are welcome, on a lead as we will be passing livestock in places.
Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.
Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited. Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.
Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
