Christmas Eve Morning Walk: Ickleford to Ho-Ho-Holwell (6 miles/10km, Leisurely - Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

Join us for a morning walk just north of Hitchin, followed by optional festive drinks.

This relatively flat route begins in the village of Ickleford, following the Icknield Way Path past the disused Hitchin-Bedford railway line, where a mural has recently been added to the old bridge abutment. After admiring this painting, we’ll turn onto the Hicca Way, a trail which takes us through Ickleford Common alongside the River Hiz. Here we may see sheep and cattle grazing.

Leaving the common, we progress through open fields, re-crossing the former railway line and heading up a gentle incline towards the hamlet of Holwell. After a break for mince pies or other snacks, we’ll continue southwards; we should have some fine views over the local landscape before we meet the Icknield Way again, returning us to Ickleford.

After the walk we can visit a village pub for mulled wine or other Christmas cheer.

Please note some paths are likely to be muddy so walking boots are recommended. Christmas jumpers, Santa hats etc. optional!

Dogs are welcome, on a lead.

Booking your place: If you would like to join, you must book in advance using the Stag Walkers Meetup group - see Notes for how to book & what to bring. If you are unable to attend, please cancel your booking so that someone else can take your place.

Please do not turn up for a walk without booking, as places are limited.

Unless you opt in to further communications, we will only use contact information you provide to get in touch about the walk.

Please car-share or use public transport if possible. To offer a lift or ask for one from a fellow walker, please use the Meetup event page.
