Arlesey, Henlow Lakes & Langford (7.5 miles / 12km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

This is a fairly flat route through the Bedfordshire countryside alongside rivers, lakes and fields. It is a mid-length walk suitable for those who would like to walk a slightly longer distance than is offered by our Introductory Walks.

Setting off from Arlesey station, we’ll follow the River Hiz and loop around Henlow Lakes before passing Henlow Grange, a Georgian mansion which is now a Champneys spa. We’ll walk along part of the Kingfisher Way, passing further fishing lakes and taking us through a nature reserve called Seal Bank, before we stop for a snack break by the River Ivel. We'll hope to see some bird life along the way.

Next, we’ll pass through the village of Langford and over the East Coast Main Line railway, then follow a field-edge bridleway gently uphill. From the top of the slope there are great views of the surrounding landscape.

After a break to eat our packed lunches, we’ll head towards Stotfold Common then follow a section of the Etonbury Green Wheel back to Arlesey station and an optional pub visit at the end of the walk.

Please bring a packed lunch, drinks and a sitmat, and wear walking boots: some paths are likely to be muddy.

Dogs are welcome, on a lead.
