Aldenham to Bricket Wood Trail (7 miles/11km - Leisurely, Booking Required)

This walk is for up to 30 people, including the leader.

Join us for a walk from Aldenham to Bricket Wood and the surrounding areas as we explore picturesque landmarks including the grounds of Wall Hall and the woodland of Bricket Common.

The route will be a mixture of paved and unsurfaced paths, some of which may be muddy, so boots are recommended. There will be some gentle slopes, but most of the terrain will be fairly flat. There is parking on the roads around St John the Baptist church.

We'll start outside the medieval St John the Baptist church in Aldenham, where we'll head through the village and fields to Wall Hall, a Grade II listed gothic style mansion built for the wealthy banker George Woodford in 1802. The mansion was bought out and turned into luxury flats in 2003. Heading north, we'll explore the surrounding Wall Hall woodland as we pass near to Little Munden Equestrian Centre, adjacent to the River Colne. Next on the route is Bricket Wood Common. At different timees of year, this area is a great natural habitat for a variety of wildlife including muntjac deer, sparrowhawks, butterflies, great crested newts, heath spotted orchids and grass snakes.

On the other side of the Common, we'll stop at The Old Fox pub for a quick refreshment before heading through Peartree Wood. To finish off the walk, we'll follow the River Colne to Aldenham Golf Club and back to Aldenham.

Dogs are welcome on a lead.
